PS103 - Modern Italian Political Thought

Course Description

The class introduces the student both to Italian modern history and political thought by providing them with basic knowledge on different aspects (economic, cultural, social) of its development in the 19th and 20th century and outlining the ideas of some prominent political thinkers such as Benedetto Croce, Giovanni Gentile, and Antonio Gramsci. A special section will be dedicated to early modern figures such as Dante or Machiavelli.

Class meets twice a week In each meeting, the first part is dedicated to answer questions and discuss points about the assigned materials. In the second part the teacher introduces new topics and provides materials to be studied for the next meeting. 

Prerequisites

No particular prerequisite. Familiarity with historical and political studies.

A deeper comprehension of contemporary Italy political thought and history.
